Wyoming State Troopers typically begin their career within the "Highway Patrol Trooper I" pay band (PSHP07) of the State of Wyoming pay scale. The starting wage as of January 1, 2024 for a newly hired Trooper I has been increased to $29.30 per hour ($5,078 per month). Upon attaining Advanced Peace Officer Certification through the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission (WY POST), Troopers are reclassified into the "Highway Patrol Trooper II" pay band (PSHP08). Newly hired Troopers who have qualifying sworn law enforcement experience who meet the qualifications and requirements through WY POST to be certified at or above the level of Advance Peace Officer may be hired directly into the Trooper II pay band. The starting wage as of January 1, 2024 for reclassifications or new hires at the Trooper II level is $32.81 per hour ($5,686 per month).
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is a section of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). Currently, WYDOT is offering a $2,000 hiring incentive for all permanent positions. Newly hired State Troopers, Port of Entry professionals, and Dispatchers all qualify for this hiring incentive.
